Nobody’s Perfect Series Opera earrings
Nobody’s Perfect Series Opera earrings
These earrings are made using a mold of a piece of an antique pin that belonged to my grandmother. I loved her funky old jewelry and would spend hours rummaging through the boxes of treasures in her room. The stones in these earrings are black onyx faceted beads. They remind me of something I would wear to a formal occasion, or to dress up to go to the opera. Or more likely a musical.
The Nobody’s Perfect series began one day in my studio as I was getting frustrated with trying to make a pair of silver charms for earrings match exactly. Mostly I was taking myself way too seriously. Then it hit me…there are no rules that say two earrings must match perfectly. No one is perfect anyway. I think at that point I laughed out loud. Then I drilled a second hole into one of those charms and made the very first pair of ‘Nobody’s Perfect’ earrings. For me.
I love the organic, imperfect nature of the material I work with. Art Clay Silver works like ceramic clay, but it’s made of powdered metal, so the end result is pure fine silver. Often, I leave fingerprints on the backs of my pieces as a reminder that perfectly pristine pieces are not my goal. I want to create jewelry that honors our individuality, and embraces our imperfections.
